  • The French Revolution was primarily caused by the common man's oppression. Those of the lower classes were starving and struggling.
  • The Convention made a Committee of Public Safety which enforced a Reign of Terror which killed those who opposed the revolution.
  • This Terror killed approximately 40,000 people who were labeled as "counterrevolutionaries".
  • The Committee held more campaigns against rich privilege and stopped their compensation.
  • Robespierre was a prominent radical in the Terror and alienated much Catholicism in France.
  • The Terror essentially ended with Robespierre's execution by guillotine, and the economy was stabilizing due to war victories, ending the Terror.
