Storyboard Text

  • "Do Not Let the Media Diminish Your Body Image"
  • I'm lonely. Maybe watching some television will make me feel better.
  • Let's go to the gym after work. It is going to be so fun.
  • Running sounds good for tomorrow. I love you even when you smell. HAHA.
  • They are so lean and skinny. I wonder how I look in comparison.
  • HAHAHA. You guys are the best.
  • Cecilia, would you like to go to the gym with me. My friends, Sam and Sony, will be there too. I think that we have been excluding you and that is not right.
  • There is nothing wrong with that. Let's go talk about this in another room.
  • I think that I will show too much of my body in gym clothes. I am happy that you offered, but  I am pretty insecure about my body.
  • Cecilia feels isolated at her work place. Everyone seems to have fun with their friends by exercising, but she has never done that before.  However, she reads beauty magazines all of the time and wishes she could look like the models on the page. She feels like she can never be like them. She wants the perfect life that all of the lean people around her seem to have.
  • I see all of these beautifully lean women on television and I feel so distraught about my own body.
  •  Cecilia relieves her negative feelings about her body and her social life by watching television. When watching television, she always sees the same beautiful and lean girls. It gives her a brief moment of ease. At the same time, it is followed by a feeling of guilt.
  • I think that going to the gym will be good for you.
  • The next day, Amber, Cecilia's co-worker, invites Cecilia to a day at the gym with the rest of her friends. They want to include Cecilia in their activities because they feel like they have been leaving her out of their previous activities. However, Amber discovers that Cecilia has a negative body image.
  • We are all here now. Let's change into our gym clothes.
  • Amber and Cecilia sit down in a new room and discuss Cecilia's body image. Amber gives amazing advice to Cecilia on how to to deal with her issue and what caused it. Cecilia spent too much time on television shows that promoted a negative body image.
  • In the past, I have had issues with my body image. From personal experience, I can say that you need to spend less time watching television that promotes dangerous messages. They make you believe that your body is inadequate.
  • After Amber helps Cecilia to realize her negative body image, she tries to convince Cecilia to go to the gym. Amber knows how important it is to diminish the amount of television Cecilia watches; additionally, Cecilia will be around people who support a positive body image. Amber is able to convince Cecilia and Cecilia agrees to go to the gym.
  • It will help you to accept your body for all of its imperfections. Exercise also helps you to be more self-confident and you are taking away from your screen time at home at the same time.
  • Why do you think that way? I am still insecure about my body.
  • All right, I will go.
  • The next day, Cecilia meets Amber and her friends at the gym. Everyone is excited to be there and Cecilia finally feels accepted for the first time in years. Amber is happy to see that Cecilia is excited to change into gym clothes, and is not ashamed to show her body. Cecilia knows that a positive body image does not mean that her body has to be perfect, but that she accepts it wholeheartedly.
  • The End
  • Definitely.
  • We are so glad that you could make it.
