Storyboard Text

  • 52 males were incarcerated in a Canadian prison, all confessed of true murder. Each participant was tested on a psychopathy assessment; 14 were psychopaths and 38 were non-psychopaths.
  • Participants were interviewed by two senior psychology graduate students and one research student. The purpose of the study and the procedure was explained to them verbally.
  • They then asked the prisoners to fully describe the murder they committed, they were audiotaped. The researchers were blind to the psychopathy scores of the offenders.
  • They were told not to leave out any details. Each interview lasted approximately 25 minutes.
  • Afterwards, the narratives were turned into typed transcripts, with efforts being made to make these as verbatim as possible.
  • Psychopaths describe more powerful emotional events in a rational but more primitive way and tend to view crime as a logical outcome of a plan.
