  • Words that have a strong connotation in the quote  "the old men stated in their corner, silent, motionless, hunted-down creatures. Some were praying. " are creatures, silent, motionless and praying. These words convey the tone of Wiesel's narrative by telling us how some jew's were handling being in the concentration camps.
  • Wisel sometimes uses punctuation and sentence structure to convey meaning. Reread the second to last paragraph in the text. Why does he use short, incomplete sentence ? How does this stylistic approach affect meaning?Wisel uses short incomplete sentences so the reader can visualize how the concentration camp loos like.
