  • The French and Indian War 1754-1763
  • This will cost us dearly!
  • We'll just have to tax the Colonists later on!
  • The Sugar Act 1764
  • We can't afford to pay the tax for cookies.
  • Pay Your Taxes!!
  • The Boston Massacre 1770
  • How dare you!!!
  • You started the violence!
  • How Dare YOU!!
  • The high cost of the French and Indian War led to the British taxing the Colonists in the following years. The war was fought to gain land and improve trade.
  • Boston Tea Party 1773
  • The Sugar Act placed taxes on some of the most popular products in the Colonies at the time. This made the Colonists get angry, but not as angry as they would later become.
  • First Continental Congress 1774
  • Yay!
  • I say we organize militias!
  • The higher taxes led to protest. The Boston Massacre was the result of a protest, and the British killing 5 Colonists helped convince people that the British were bad.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord 1775
  • This protest was a result of the new taxes on tea. It led to increased tensions between the British Parliament and the Colonists. Both sides were angry!
  • We won't let you Brits control us!
  • The colonists defied the Coercive Acts and organized a secret meeting. This meeting helped organize the coming protests and militias.
  • YAY
  • Nay!
  • These were the first battles of the Revolutionary War. From this event onwards, the notion of American Independence started to gain momentum.
  • We won't let you tax us!
  • Yes! We've had quite enough!
