Mrs.Mallard goes off to her room and looks out the window at the Spring weather outside.
Mrs.Mallard has overcame her grief by now coming to the concept that if Mr.Mallard is dead she is free. This thought relaxed her body and she was held by a monstrous joy that she in no longer under anyone's control.

Josephine hears Mrs. Mallard in the room whispering and assumes she is putting herself in danger. She is begging to be let in to make sure her sister is fine. Mrs. Mallard will not open the door and tells her she is fine.
Mrs.Mallard finally opens the door and comes out at her sister's request, she grabbed her sister's waist and they began walking down the stairs. Josephine was still worried, while Mrs.Mallard had a feverish triumph in her eyes and walked like a goddess.
Richards was waiting for them to come downstairs. As they came down someone was opening the door and it was Mr.Mallard who was supposed to been dead. Josephine let out a piercing cry. Everyone was shocked in the moment so much as it caused Mrs.Mallard to die of heart disease from a joy that kills.
