Romulus and Remes were twin brothers; their father was Mars, the God of War and their mother was Rhea Silvia, the daughter of King Numitor.
Numitor's brother, Amulis became king and stopped Silvia from having children. So, Amulis banished his brother Numitor and Silvia, then threw the twins in a basket into River Tiber, hoping they would drown.
Instead of drowning, the basket washed ashore and a she wolf spotted the wailing twins. She took them to her cave and looked after them. The twins became part of the family.
One day,a shepherd, Fastulus took them home because his wife had no children. He and his wife looked after them until they were able to take care of themselves.
The news of the two twins got to the kingdom. When the two twins found out about Amulis , they killed him and put their grandfather back on the throne. After their great success, the twins decided to build a city by the river where they were first found. They wanted to name the city.
Remus wanted to name it REM because he built the temples but Romulus wanted to name it ROME because we built the buildings. They got into a huge argument and Romulus eventually killed Remus. ROME was a huge success and when Romulus died, he was carried up to the heavens by his father, Mars, and was worshipped at the God Quirinus.
