The creature tells Victor how confused he's been feeling since he was created. He describes the wilderness and the obstacles he faces. How he's discovering fire, dark, hunger, and cold. He tells a story of how, one day he made a fire and is happy with the warmth it creates, he tells how he starts to learn new things.
When trying to find food the monster comes across a hut in the woods. When he approaches the hut and goes inside, he sees an old man. The old man screams and yells in fear when he sees the creature.
After he leaves the old mans house he walks into a village. More people being to run from him in fear. He starts to become upset and confused. From that point on he stays away from humans.
One night he finds a small house that was right behind a cottage. He decides to stay there so he is safe. He sees that there is a family in the cottage and he watches them. He steals there food to stay alive.
The creature notices how upset the family is. He finds out that they are broke. He feels so guilty that hes been taking their things that he stops, and in return he gets wood and leaves it by their door at night so they can have a fire.
The more the creature watches the family the more he begins to learn. He learns how to speak and how to react with emotions by listening to how they communicate. He learns that the man's name is Felix and the women's name is Agatha. He starts to care about them.
