Storyboard Text

  • Causes of the American Revolution
  • Background
  • Cause 1
  • Why the colonist fought back.
  • Reaction 1
  • The French and Indian War-After the war England needed money to pay off their debt so they decided to tax the colonists for the money because most of the money was used to help them.
  • Cause 2
  • The Sugar Act-England needed money to pay off the cost of the war so they put a tax on sugar, wine, indigo and molasses.
  • Reaction 2
  • The colonists were extremely mad at this because they relied on using molasses to turn into rum to sell to other colonies. The New England colonies protested because of this. This also worried colonial leaders who thought this might be Britain trying to seize power.
  • Intolerable Acts-In response to the Boston Tea Party England decided to pass new law that would allow it to house troops whenever and wherever, close the Boston harbor until the tea that was dumped was paid for and it banned the Committees of Correspondence.
  • In response to this other colonies send supplies to Boston and the representatives stopped all trade with Britain until the laws were repealed. They also formed a army of men to fight if something were to happen.
