  • The climax is when Jeanette finally reaches her breaking point and leaves her family to go join and live with Lori in New York. She finally loses faith that her father will change and everything will be normal at home.
  • The main theme of the story was family. Jeanette tried to stay with her family as long as she could, and for awhile her and her siblings tried to think of ways to persevere and make an income without their parents contributing, so they could have food.  When she was younger she generally believed that her father had the best intentions, but as she got older she realized that that wasn't always the case. Even once she moved to New York she still stayed in touch with her family.
