Polonius wants to find out how Laertes is behaving in Paris and sends a servant to him. Ophelia reports that Hamlet visited her in a distressed state. Polonius and Ophelia believe that Hamlet has gone mad with grief because Ophelia has been keeping him at a distance.
HAMLET'S GONE MAD!
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern have been brought to court to spy on hamlet. The ambassadors return from a successful mission to Norway. Polonius informs Claudius that Ophelia's rejection may be the cause of Hamlet's madness.
Polonius encounters hamlet and is convinced he is mad. A theatrical company arrive and perform a speech at Hamlets request. Hamlet uses a play to test the ghosts story and establish Claudius's guilt.
