Storyboard Text

  • Mexican leaders give cannon to the Texans in Gonzales.
  • Mexican Colonel Domingo d Ugartechea sent a small group of soldiers to get the cannon back.
  • Texans would not return the cannon, buried the cannon and prepared to fight. Mexicans sent more than a hundred men to get the cannon. They were told to avoid fighting.
  • Texans took all the boats so the Mexicans couldn't cross the river. The Mexicans camped down the river.
  • The Texans on the Gonzales side of the river pulled out the cannon. Women in the town created a flag with a cannon design and words "Come and take it". 
  • Texans fired on the Mexicans with the cannon. There was a brief fight before the Mexicans retreated back to San Antonio. Only death was a Mexican soldier.
