Storyboard Text

  • Introduction
  • Have you guys talked to the Montresors at all? I heard they were a bunch of poop heads.
  • Claim
  • That dirty wine lover, calls me and my family poop heads! I will show him who is boss.
  • Reason
  • I can never go out anymore without being taunted for being a so called poop head!
  • In the short story "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator is angry at another character named Fortunato, a wine expert, for insulting him and his family. Fortunato has been insulting him for so long that the narrator has had enough. He decides that it is finally time to get his revenge during the carnival, and when Fortunato is a little bit intoxicated and doesn't have all of his senses. His plans work out and he gets the revenge he has been longing for.
  • TE
  • True. Us Montresors were a great family.
  • The narrator's revenge is justified.
  • Analysis
  • Right this way we are almost there.
  • Fortunato has been insulting the narrator and his family for so long that it has corrupted their reputation.
  • Conclusion
  • The narrator states: "True. Us Montresors were a great family" (Poe, 31).
  • From these quotes you can see that Fortunatos insulting had a big effect on the whole family. When the narrator states that they were a great family it is in past tense meaning that they used to be, so you can assume that all of the years of insults from Fortunato caused corruption of the family and a bad reputation.
  • In conclusion the narrators revenge was warranted, because of the effect Fortunato's insults had on the whole family. With his insults corrupting the family and giving them a bad reputation, his revenge is definitely understandable.
