  • Women’s March on Versailles
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man
  • Reign of Terror
  • On October 1789, thousands of Parisian women rioted over the rising price bread. Armed with knives, axes, and other weapons, they marched to Versailles to tell the National Assembly to take action to provide bread and for Louis and Marie Antoinette must return to Paris. After some time, Louis agreed to come back to Paris.
  • Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
  • The third class was upset with the Old Regime so they decided to make a document mimicking the Declaration of Independence stating that all men are created equal, and gave the people freedoms of speech and freedom of religion.
  • Rise of Napoleon
  • In 1793 a man named Maximilien Robespierre led a group of people who wanted a change to the government. He thought the only way to maintain order was to do it through terror. He ended up getting killed by the people that were once on his side. More then 40,000 people were killed during his dictatorship.
  • Fall of Napoleon
  • In 1792, the Prussian commander threatened to destroy Paris if France hurt anyone of the royal family. This made many people mad, so about 20,000 men marched to where the royal family was staying and massacred the royal guards. They took Louis and Marie Antoinette along with their children. They were later killed.
  • Napoleon stepped in when the Directory had lost control of political situations and confidence of French people. In 1802, he set up an efficient method of tax collection and created a national banking system. He also made an agreement with the church which gained support from the French peasants.
  • Napoleon's drive to make his empire bigger led to his fall. He set up a blockade to stop any ships from entering and British ports which was also some French people's way of getting goods exported. Also his idea to invade Russia in the winter is a main cause of his downfall.
