Storyboard Text

  • Did you hear that serfs are finally free? The lord decided to give us more freedom to people in the new lands, so they move. Also new inventions are making farming easier for us and there is more food production too!
  • Can you believe how all of sudden the towns became active centers of commercial life? It's amazing how trade and food supply encouraged the growth of towns. Townspeople on land now want to make their own laws and have their own systems so they could be a self-governing city-state, that is just crazy!
  • Yeah I know! It's insane that the townspeople want to be able to marry whoever they want and do what they want to do. Also since the towns are on land, held by feudal lords, if townspeople are treated like serfs ,then townspeople could resist.
  • Yeah the benefits are endless. Our business together will now expand and increase profits. Also the risk is now reduced. I can't wait to start on Monday as one big company!
  • It's great that we finally started to create a partnership together there are so many benefits to it! Lots of people are starting to form fellowship and I did not want to be the only one standing alone, because without joining our businesses I don't know if we would survive.
  • Yeah I did! I also heard that fewer people are dying and population is growing steadily, because an increase in population that means there is more demand for goods. Trade is really starting to pick up right? Trade fairs are now held on routes.
  • Did you hear from your husband that Claudius conquered Britain? Roman legions decided to abandon Britain when empire was falling and Germanic tribes invaded it too. The Roman culture later on died.
  • Yes, I did hear that. Also found out that the invaders set up seven kingdoms and the Danish Vikings also invaded England.
  • Aren't you happy that the kings after William decided to make changes to the legal system? Now, it seems that the system is much more fair than before. Williams son , Henry I was the one who established a common legal system.
  • Yes, I am extremely happy about that. My father told me that Williams' other son, Henry II decided to expand the legal system and to bring cases into royal courts instead of Church or feudal lords.
  • I hate our King John so much. He demands for high taxes and other oppressive actions, he angered barons and lords, which was enough for them to rebel.
  • I agree, I hate him too. I heard that the barons forced John to set his seal to Magna Carta- "Great Charter". The King then finally agreed to recognize the barons' rights and privileges including that of fair trial.
