Andrew Jackson was all geared up to win the election. With the most electoral votes, he had it in the bag, until he was informed that he had to have majority, which is 50% plus one.
Henry Clay was Speaker of the house, and he met up with John Quincy Adams and they made a plan that Henry Clay would make sure that JQ Adams would win the election. They threw JAckson's chance out of the window.

After Andrew Jackson's chance was taken, he was determined to win in 1828. Once he did win, he what is now known as JAckson's Kitchen Cabinet. He appointed members of his cabinet by if they were his friends or family. Jackson was considered the people's president because he said that he was like every other normal man.
Indian Removal Act
Although Jackson wasn't a normal man, people bought it and he won. The Kitchen Cabinet ties in with the Spoils System, which was a big part of his presidency. He appointed people he knew instead of people hat were fit for the job. Which ironically was why he won the last election.
South Carolina wanted to secede from the union because there was a tariff put on imported goods. South Carolina's main source of income was imported goods so they were afraid that people would stop trading with them. Luckily in 1832 a lower tariff was passed.
One last event that happened was the indian removal act, which Jackson passed to try and get rid of the Indians that were in the new territory. Most tribes left, and one didn't. The one that didn't ended up on the trail of tears, which was their way of being pushed out the military and over 4,000 of the tribe members died.
