Dramatic Irony is shown in the short story when most of the characters did not know that the cobra is under the table (or in the room at all.)
Situational Irony is shown in the story when Mrs. Wynnes (the hostess) stayed calm despite what the colonel believed that all women do (panic.)
The theme of the short story is that "your gender has no impact on how courageous you are." This is the theme because in the story the colonel tells the woman that woman are less courageous than men. During the story, it shows that woman are equally courageous. The host of the party felt a snake on her foot and instead of acting out, she calmly put a bowl of milk outside and let the snake crawl across her foot.
