I am here to announce India as a independent free country
this was the first eye opener to Gandhi. He didn't want anyone to be treated they way that he was treated, he spent the next 21 years fighting those injustices. this is when he developed his philosophy of nonviolence
With 78 followers Gandhi walked from Ahmedabad to Dandi in hopes of ending the salt act that prohibited the Indians from gathering or making their own salt. it was a 24 day journey and at the end Gandhi got imprisoned for 7 months, but his march worked because tens of thousands of Indians followed his example.
In 1947 the British parliament approved the Indian independence act, and divided the country into 2independant countries. Hindu in India and Muslims in Pakistan. Which created many problems later
