  • Africa almost entirely under the rule of European colonial powers. Thousands of Africans served in European armies during war. Africans believed they earned independence.

  • War caused economic issues in Africa. Trade in Africa dried up and European spending in African colonies slowed down, which many African colonies depended on.
  • Africans started Pan-African Congresses which led to series of demands for African Independence.
  • Egypt gained independence after British knew they could not have full control over Egypt, which was a nationalism victory for Africa.
