  • The ionian Greeks asked for help from other city states in mainland Greece. athens helped and persia was angry that they helped, so the leader of persia declared war on Athens.
  • battle of salamis 
  • the persian army were sailing to athens but they landed in marathon . Athens sent a runner named phedipippides to worn the other city states.
  • battle of platea 
  • spartans were able to hold back the persians because they controlled the narrow rivers. The spartans were defeted because a traitor. The Athenians held back the persians to get every body out of sparta. king Leonidas lost to the Athenians 
  • effects of the war 
  • The athenians rushed to other islands because  the persians were coming to destroy athens. Athenian boats were roughter and bigger, persian boats were smaller.
  • The Greeks defeated Persia. This was important because it should greeks independence.
