My ships are on the sea, but if you borrow money from someone else I promise to pay it back for you!
Bassonio and Antonio are both merchants. Bassonio have fallen in love with Portia but can't afford to marry her.
Can I borrow money from you?
You have been bullying me since I'm Jewish!
I will borrow you money, but if you don't pay it back within three months I will cut off a pound of your flesh!
Antonio asks Shylock for money.
To marry Portia Bassonio has to choose the right casket, which he does.
Portia and Bassonio can finally marry.
Three months pass, and Antonios ships get lost at the sea. This means Shylock gets to cut off a pound of his flesh.
You never said Shylock was aloud to spill any of Antonios blood.
But fortunately Portia figured out a solution. And everyone lived happily ever after.
