  • The First Punic war was a naval war.  Carthage had stronger ships than Rome so they rammed the Roman Trireme ships to sink them.  Carthage was highly experienced and had very good naval power.  On the other hand, Rome had a small navy, and little experience.  The Carthagian navy overpowered the small Roman navy.
  • Despite this Rome still won the First Punic War.  Rome never gave up until they made adjustments to their ships.  They equipped the ships with big hooks and soldiers on ships.  The would hook an enemy ship, pull it nearby, and board it wih soldiers.  They made mini-land battles which Rome was best at Click To Edit Despite this Rome still won the First Punic War.  Rome never gave up until they made adjustments to their ships.  They equipped the ships with big hooks and soldiers on ships.  The would hook an enemy ship, pull it nearby, and board it wih soldiers.  They made mini-land battles which Rome was best at.   Insert Link Insert Image Insert Video Help Insert ParagraphUndoes the last commandRedoes the last commandTabUntabSet a bold styleSet a italic styleSet a underline styleSet a strikethrough styleClean a styleSet left alignSet center alignSet right alignSet full alignToggle unordered listToggle ordered listOutdent on current paragraphIndent on current paragraphChange current block's format as a paragraph(P tag)Change current block's format as H1Change current block's format as H2Change current block's format as H3Change current block's format as H4Change current block's format as H5Change current block's format as H6Insert horizontal ruleShow Link Dialog Summernote 0.8.11 · Project · Issues
  • In the Secon Punic War Carthaginian general Hannibal, suprises Rome by going through the Alps.  They invaded the north with a strong army of elephants.  Roman armies were sent to stop him but they were unsuccessful.   Didn't attack Rome and instead tried to destroy Rome's economic base.
  • Even though that attack was unexpected Rome won the second.   Scipio and his Roman army sailed to Carthage in efforts to gain Hannibal's attention.  Hannibal goes to Carthage only to be defeated at the Battle of Zama.
  • Carthage was defenseless after the Second Punic War.   Hannibal killed himself to not be taken prisoner, the economy shattered, and they lost all territory to Rome. Rome feared Carthage may come back, so Cato the Elder pushed for another war which started the Third Punic War.
  • Rome won the Third Punic War.  Due to Cato Rome declared war against the defenseless Carthage. The win was easy, entire remaining population was sold into slavery, all of value came back to Rome, everything else was burried or dumped to sea, and the site was sown with salt so nothing could grow again. Carthage compltely dissapeared.
