  • Nymph, I need your help...
  • You must distract my wife!
  • So Medusa said....
  • One day, Zeus came running through the woods looking for a place to hide as his wife, Hera, chased him. Along the way he spotted Echo, a Nymph and asked for help.
  • Let your voice be gone!!!
  • As Hera tore through the woods after Zeus, he asked Echo to distract Hera with gossip and chatter so he could escape her wrath. Echo did just that and Zeus escaped to safety.
  • Echo!!!
  • Echo!!!
  • Echo!!!
  • Echo!!!
  • So each day when Hera would chase Zeus through the woods, Echo would sidetrack her and provide Zeus the time he needed to flee. This worked well for quite a while.
  • The End!
  • Eventually, Hera caught on to this act and punished Echo by denying her much of her beautiful voice.
  • Now all Echo could do forever was repeat the last few sounds she heard. This is the origin for our word "Echo" in present context.
  • That concludes the myth of Echo and Hera, and the origin of our word "Echo" in its present context.
