  • Shi Huangdi became the first emperor of China.He standardized laws which was a major reason why China got reunited
  • He wanted to control for personal gains so he weakened powerful high-classed families and made them move to the captial and hired spies to spy on them
  • China got unified after the Warring states period by Shi Huangdi and thats where the Qin dynasty started ruling .
  • This encouraged mobility for everyone and it improved trade since its easier to transport wagons and wheel carriages
  • Another major change that improved trade is unifying the currency. It made trade more "flexible"since people can travel anywhere in the empire and still use the same currency
  • In the Qin Dynasty, a huge network of roads were paved throughout the country
  • LEGALISM: philosophy stating that astrong leader and a strong legal systemare needed to create social order
  • BREAK THE LAW AND YOU SHALL SEE CONSEQUENCES!!
  • Shi Huangdi followed legalism which decreased crime rates and brought order to the empire

  • A single language with standard characters was officially used for all the books for learning
  • Even though Shi Huangdi unified China and brought everything back to normal, he was getting harsh in punishing with his strict laws and he censored a lot of books that he thought would affect him as a ruler
  • This caused the quick downfall of the Qin dynasty and the rebellion of citizens throughout the empire
