  • My mother said, “You’re too young. It’s too hard.” 
  • My sister replied, “I’m 18. That’s old enough to go"
  • ...
  • My sister went on, "If I go I’ll be able to get a better job, right now, all I can do is work part-time. I need a real job, I need a good one. This one isn’t going anywhere."
  • My sister then said, “Don’t worry. I'll careful.”
  • I then said, “Don’t worry. They don’t send girls to fight in wars. If it was Jim that would be different.”
  • My mother cried and said, “There is a war going on. You will just be going there to fight.”
  • I remember when my sister came home and told our mother that she was going into the army.
  • 3rd omniscient 
  • As surprised as can be Momma Dukes then shouted, “You are too young and it is too hard.”
  • Darlene said, “Mom I am going to the army.”
  • My mom and sister went in the kitchen to continue their conversation.
  • ...
  • Darlene was shocked at her Momma Dukes' quick remarks and said, “I am 18, that is old enough to go. I need a real job.”
  • The conversation then transpired to the entertainment room where I got to but in.  Mother stayed worried. My sister went to training camp.
  • Momma then asked, “What if there is war then you will have to fight.”
  • Darlene replied, “Don’t worry I will be very careful.”
  • Darlene came home from school, she was nervous to tell mom her big news.
  • Darlene and Momma Duke then went into the kitchen to continue their conversation where Momma started to get emotional.
  • Worried and emotional Momma Dukes consoles herself as she talks to he daughter, Momma Dukes eventually let Darlene go to training camp.
