Harriet Tubman was a free slave that helped other slaves get free. As a child she took care of the slave owners baby and when she turned 12 she started working in the fields.
By the time she was 24, Harriet Tubman had had enough and had escaped the farm where she worked. She didn't have directions so she used the North Star to guide the way, to the North.
When Harriet Tubman got to the North she missed her family, so she went back and freed them and other slaves. She freed 70 slaves in 19 trips.
