  • This man has no idea what he is talking about. 
  • Mr.Lincoln has said that America can not stay "half-free and half-slave" but in actuality popular sovereignty is working out just fine.
  • This debate is between Republican Abraham Lincoln and Democrat Stephen Douglas. They are discussing about the issue of slavery in America.
  • 1865- The 13th Amendment is passed abolishing slavery in the United States and ending the Civil War

  • Abraham Lincoln is a Republican from Illinois that who was opposed to slavery . He used tactics in the debate and they were to point out the spread of slavery in the West

  •     Stephen Douglas is a Democrat from Illinois that wanted to compromise on slavery out West with the Union and the South.Douglas also criticized Lincoln on him saying that the nation could not remain "half-free and half-slave."

  • I cannnot believe that I have won, I am very grateful for the debate against Mr.Douglas because without it I pobably would not have been elected.
  • Stephen Douglas however, won the Senate and became the Senator of Illinois. He was seen as the next Henry Clay but not as good as making compromises.

  • Although Douglas did win the senate, Lincoln rose in popularity among his party. This popularity rose him to become the leader of the Republican Party.
  • Due to Lincoln becoming the leader of the Republican Party, he ultimately decided to run for POTUS in 1861 which to nobody's surprise won. After his election he guided America through the most brutal war in American history, the Civil War.
