Linda grew up on a farm in Vietnam, with her three brothers and widowed mother. Linda had to quit school to help her mother raise their family.
Meeting New People
At age 17, Linda got married to her husband. He helped Linda's family a lot, financially.
we are here to help!
With 55 other people, Linda, her husband, her two daughters, and three brothers decided that it would be best to immigrate, due to the negative economic decrease, and to have a better life for themselves, and her children. They traveled on a small boat, for nine days. Five days into the voyage, the boat ran out of food, and drinks. The passengers had to drink urine.
A Bit of a Halt
But then unexpectedly, as the boat sailed through the South China Sea, Linda´s boat got pulled over by pirates. They took all their useful items like saws, and knives. They also took their jewelry. But the boat got somewhat lucky, because the pirates did feed everyone.
A few days later, the boat of now 53 met another boat. Everyone got very scared, thinking it was another boat of pirates. Soon to figure out that these people were here to help the desperate immigrants, get to land. But sadly, not to where they were planning on going.
The people that helped Linda's boat unfortunately brought the boat back to Thailand, which is right next to Vietnam. Linda's family stayed there for 5 months, and then were on their way back to the United States
