As women of the house, Stella and Blanche are expected to feed Stanley's lust and hunger. Blanche, an impulsive women with overruling emotions finds comfort in the negativity that she often relies on
Blanche, in a state of discomfort finds solitude in bathing. The bath symbolizes her confined mental state, and how she continues to fester in her own destruction.
BLANCHE: I think I will bathe. STELLA: Again? BLANCHE: My nerves are in knots. Is the bathroom occupied? STELLA: I don't know.
Stella and Blanche are sexual puppets for Stanley and they both ignore the importance of mental health. They are being put in a place of submission and when they do voice their discomfort they are physically punished and emotionally disregarded.
In the end, the masculine powers of the home render both women useless. They are deemed as too emotional or unstable and further pushed into toxic enviroments
