  • The Second Successful English Colony Reagan Brautigam Period 7 
  • The people who settled in Plymouth were Pilgrims and Puritans. They settled in Plymouth for religious freedom.  The religion for the Puritans was called "The New England Way". The priest wants the church to be called "The City on the Hill". 
  • Social
  • The government in Plymouth was created by the people, their government was the Mayflower Compact. The men had town meetings and voted for who they wanted. 
  • Political
  • The main ways of getting food and money was fishing and whaling. Another way of making money was the timber industry. 
  • Economical
  • The land that Plymouth was settled on, had very rocky soil and was not suited for planting crops. The land that Plymouth was settled in is now modern day Massachusetts. It was near the ocean so it was very stormy. There is a landmark named after the settlement, called Plymouth Rock. 
  • Geography
  • How would you compare and contrast Jamestown and Plymouth? Jamestown started out at a good point and Plymouth started out bad. Plymouth didn't have good soil for planting and Jamestown had excellent soil for planting and growing crops. The settlers were very different, the people from Jamestown came to the new world because to claim land for England, and people for Plymouth came to the new world because they wanted religious freedom.
