I don't have enough money to pay you back for the money I owe.
Where's my money to pay for the debt we owe?!
North Hampton -- August 29, 1786
Former military men became farmers once they fulfilled their duties after serving in the war. However, each state created their own tax to pay back the money they owed for the war. Massachusett farmers were taxed more, and if they didn't pay their taxes, they would loose their farm land.
On August 29, a gang of armed and angry farmers and soldiers closed the North Hampshire Court of Common Pleas. They did this in order to send a message that they believe the government is unfair for implementing such high taxes that they could not afford to pay back of what they owed.
