Giovanni, a new neighbor, spots Rappacini out on his balcony doing research. This introduces us to the poison plant that is Rappacini's daughter, Beatrice. With a toss of a bouquet and the want to know more, Giovanni sets out for information.
Giovanni came to find that he not only wants to know more about this beautiful girl, but that he loves her. But then, he discovers that he too may be poisonous. with a change of heart, he heads to meet Rappaccinis daughter.
Giovanni finds a possible cure, an antidote to any poison in the world. But because Beatrice is a source of toxin, not infected with it, the antidote ends up killing her. Both her father and Giovanni watch her die at the hands of her fathers experiment.
