Winter Storm Kai is moving into the NYC area very fast. Jana, an NBC5 meteorologist, will discuss Kai's predicted movement through the next 24hrs. Then she will introduce the reporter that is LIVE in NYC suburbs.
Rose, a reporter, is live and on the scene in Queens with an update on the incoming storm. Winds speeds in the area are currently at 30mph (48.4km/h), but are expected to go up as high as 40mph (64.4 km/h) as the snowstorm passes.
Back in the newsroom, Jana shows the pattern of the storm as it moves over the border of P.A. and N.Y. The fast moving snowstorm is expected to manifest into a blizzard over New York due to the moisture from the Atlantic Ocean, and the blizzard is anticipated to pass in 24hrs. Jana asks Rose her observation on the town.
Rose is facing freezing conditions of -15degrees F (-9.4degrees C), snow with rain, and a wind chill at -20degrees F (-6.7degrees C). She is seeing a build up of 5in (12.7cm), and as the temperatures plummet 10in (25cm) of snow is expected to accumulate. With only 2hrs before the blizzard hits the NYC area people are closing local businesses and returning to their homes before they are stuck on the already icy roads.
Jana warns the citizens to stay inside and off the roads. If you are forced to drive, be aware of black ice, whiteouts, and snowdrifts, as visibility becomes hazier. She gives advice on what to do incase of a power outage, and releases emergency contacts.
