  • The climax of this short story is when the sun comes out for the first time in seven years. The kids have locked Margot in a closet and to their astonishment, the sun comes out.

  • External Conflict
  • The climax of this short story is when the sun comes out for the first time in seven years. The kids have locked Margot in a closet and to their astonishment, the sun comes out.
  • Margot then feels sad when being locked inside the closet which then later makes the children feel guilty for not letting her experience the 1 time the sun comes out every 7 years.
  • Personification
  • The children lay out,laughing, on the jungle mattress and heard it sigh and squeak under them, resilient and alive.
  • The main theme is cruelty by a mob. This means that the children of the class were very unfair towards Margot just because she was not like the other students.

  • This is the external conflict because this is the conflict that Margot faces and the children face.
