  • The symbol I chose was the black box. It symbolizes death and fear. Line 64-67 "The black box grew shabbier each year; by now it was no lomger completely black but splintered badly along one side to show the original wood color, and in some places faded or stained". Based off the way they describe it. Once you fid out what happens in the story you realize what the box actually sybolizes and it makes you realize why the box looks that way.

  • The example of imagery I used was from lines 322- 334. "Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a clearred space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her" I chose this because it's a very raw moment and it explained/showed just how tessie felt.
