At dawn, Gatsby gets back from his vigil at the Buchanans. Nothing happened. Nick hasn't been able to sleep. He's uneasy, but doesn't know why. He goes over, feeling that there's something he needs to tell Gatsby.
Because of his uneasiness, Nick tells Gatsby that he should leave for a while. He's concerned for him. This is when Gatsby tells Nick about his true past with Dan Cody. He also talks about his and Daisy's love story. He was impressed with her wealth. He preteneded to be wealthy as they fell in love. He's ever since been trying to prove himslf worthy.
Nick leaves, still feeling worried for Gatsby. Jordan calls him at work. She calls him out for being rude the night before, however, she wants to see him. They both want to see each other. Eventually, they don't speak anymore, and one of them hangs up.
Michaelis, George Wilson's neighbor, tries to comfort him through conversation. Wilson is crazed by his grief. He talks about his last day with Myrtle. He tells Michaelis that Doctor T.J Eckleburg is God's eyes. "God sees everything," he says.
Wilson's grief is tearing him apart. He seeks revenge. He believes Gatsby was the other man that Myrtle was seeing, and because he also owned the car that hit her, he also thinks he killed her. He searches everywhere for him.
Wilson eventually finds Gatsby. He finds him in his pool and shoots him. When Gatsby's body is taken inside by Nick and a few others, Wilson is also found dead.
