  • Willy Loman is the tragic hero of this play. He is a tragic hero because he commits suicide so his family will inherit his money but he has a tragic flaw.
  • Peripeteia
  • Willy is flawed because his family didn't care about money and they just wanted to be a happy family.
  • Anagnorisis
  • Charley gives Willy $50 every week because his job isn't paying him. It is clear Willy is prideful about his job when he continuously refuses job offers from Charley.
  • Catharsis
  • Things turn 'upside down' for Willy when he goes to Howard about his job but gets fired.
  • Willy experiences a moment of self-discovery after his flashbacks in the restaurant. He realizes he wants to plant seeds which symbolizes how his life hasn't been growing anymore.
  • The audience feels pity for Willy and his family at the end of the play when Willy purposely crashes his car and kills himself.
