  • Democracy
  • Oligarchy
  • Absolute: Ruler has total authority of the government and citizens cannot question it. Ex. Vatican City Limited: Limited by a constitution and/or parliament. Ex. England
  • Dictatorship
  • Representative: People elect government in order to have decisions made for them. Ex. United States Direct: People vote on all matters. This system works best in small groups or corporations. Ex. Ancient Athens
  • Totalitarianism
  • Group of people rule and have power to serve their own interest. Usually passed down from generation to generation.  Ex. White Africans control 10% of South Africa
  • Theocracy
  • Ruled by one ruler. Power is taken by force and requires military support. Ex. Cuban dictator, Castro. 
  • Ruler has total unchecked control of the nation. Citizens have only rights that the ruler chooses to give them and power is taken by force. Ex. Hitler
  • Based on religious law. Laws are traditionally based on the holy books. Ex. Vatican City.
