  • This battle was important because this was the battle that started out the civil war. The Confederate artillery fired on the Union garrison.
  • Battle of Fort Sumtor April 12, 1861 Charlston, South Carolina
  • The "war at sea" took place in Virginia in 1862. The Union used the "Monitor" while the Confederacy used the "Merimack".
  • War at Sea March 9, 1862
  • Emancipation Proclomation
  • The emancipation proclomation has two parts. It was written in 1862 and read by Abraham Lincoln, the President at the time. It guaranteed freedom to the slaves in the Union and in some Confederate states.
  • Battle of Gettysburg July 1-3, 1863 Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
  • The Battle of Gettysburg was the turning point of the war. It made it clear the North would win. 50,000 people died and the South lost its chance to invade the North.
  • Battle of Cold Hrabor May 31- June 12, 1864 Virginia
  • We need to regain footing here in Petersburg!!!!
  • What a beautiful day to finally end this war.
  • The Battle of Appomattox Court House, fought on the morning of April 11th, was one of the last battles of the American Civil War.
