This is how bare rock is made. It blows up and lava cools down on the water creating land for plants and things to grow on.
The grasses the first thing that grows on soil. The grasses further modify the soil which is them colonized by more plants and trees.
This stage is where lichens and mosses start to grow on. Bare rock is exposed, and providing a habitat that can be colonized for the first time.
Lichens and mosses grows on top of the bare rock. Then soil grows on top of the lichens, and this is how more plants grow and how an ecosystem starts.
How does soil help
Soil is formed from lichens. Soil is the fertiliser for plants and trees. So this is how plant life is formed. Soil is an abiotic factor, and plants require it to grow and it determines what type of plants and trees can grow there.
Shrubs are the second thing to grow on the soil. This is the starting point for how a full forest is started.
Trees is the final stage and the last thing is is grown on soil. This is when the forest is full and done growing.
