  • President Madison decides to declare war against Britain because they have been attacking American trade ships going to Britain and France. Just 2 days before he declared war, Britain decided to stop attacking the trade ships.
  • Francis Scott Key and the Bombardment of Fort McHenry
  • The British were capturing and forcing american sailors and merchants into the British Navy. Because of this, there was a constant disruption in the foreign trade.
  • Andrew Jackson as a War Hero and the Battle of New Orleans
  • Oliver Hazard Perry charged his troops into battle at Lake Eerie. They are fighting naval battles in the lake. Also William Henry Harrison defeats British clans in Canada. He also claims to have killed the native American leader Tecumseh.
  • Effects of the War
  • Britain attacked Washington D.C. and killed a lot of people. They went and burned down the white house and the capitol. Then they started attacking fort McHenry and Bombarding it.
  • In the Battle of New Orleans, Andrew Jackson commands the navy and military. He becomes a war hero and in that battle, he killed more than 2,000 people. This battle was the biggest victory in the war of 1812. Britain and the U.S. signed a treaty 2 weeks before the battle.
  • The war started the most important era every for America. This started the industrial era. We also gained prestige, power, and respect on a worldwide scale. Also a sense of Nationalism swept through the country.
