  • Lindsey wants to deal with the death of her sister on her own. She does not look to anyone in her family for comfort.

  • Mr. Harvey had the audacity to ask Mrs. Salmon what Susie's name was right after he had raped her.
  • Grandma Lynn's loudness came as a gift to the Salmons when she arrived. When she entered she brought a new light to it that hadn't been there since Susie died. The family was regaining some happiness.

  • Mr. Salmon goes to great lengths to expose Mr. Harvey. He is so devastated by the death of his daughter that he makes the rash decision to follow who he thought was Mr. Harvey into the corn field with a baseball bat.
