Storyboard Text

  •  America had 13 colonies, which were Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
  • A colony was an area of land that was controlled by another country.
  • The colonists responded to this very aggressively. They were very violent, they were making threats and breaking things.
  • The British Government decided to tax the colonists because they were in debt.
  • The phrase "No Taxation without representation" meant that they didn't have represtatives for the colonists so they shouldn't be paying taxes.
  • In 1770, there was a Boston Massacre which was a fight between the soldiers and a group of patriots. They fought because of the unfair taxes the British had, this lead to 10 being shot and 5 being dead.
  • The British had taxed the tea, people started to get angry with this. To solve this problem the Sons of Liberty gathered up disguised as Indians and dumped all the tea out on the ship in 1773.
  • The colonists wanted freedom from the British and they didn't like the taxes very much either. They started to prepare for war so the colonists can have their freedom. Neither of them wanted to go to war but neither of them also didn't want to back out.
