Elliot's learning was more so on the side of his loyalty towards Jackie and their kids was supposed to be that key sin of his that destroyed his life. Darling on the other hand should have learned that she can't always get what she wants. This is one of those stories where there is no happily ever after, but something is still being learned on both sides of the tightrope.
What did she mean, my husband? What family will be bent and destroyed? What child will renew our throne?
Happiness and Pride
What did the Oracle mean?
I do not know anything yet, my wife.
RUN, ERRORSVILLE, RUN
Trialsville is here to win!!!
Little Eliot and his mother and father are told the great prophecy of the boy. "Happiness and Pride", the Oracle begins, “from war you are praised. From loyalty you are broken. From field to home, from friend to enemy, the sword yields a new look. The answer of death is yours to decide.” After her final words, the Oracle fell back asleep her green smoke diminishing before disappearing.
Please, as a token of our thanks, take my daughter's hand in marriage.
I am sorry, my king, I have a wife and four children. I mustn't leave them astray.
At the rightful age of eighteen, Elliot becomes leading commander after his father. His parents, Mary and Commander Todd, let Elliot go - as is tradition for the young male sex to leave their parents and go into their initial profession at eighteen. He marries Jackie and they have four children.
Rejection at It's Finest
Two years after Elliot and Jackie’s youngest is born, Elliot is sent off to fight what will be known as the battle of the century: Battle of TrineStone. Here Trialsville fight against Errorsville. After three days of tiresome, bloody fighting, Errorsville’s army begin to retreat - the casualty count too extreme to continue battle.
Now home, Elliot returns and is titled the “Commander to Remember”. Soon, Elliot is swept into the world of true fame and money. Lord Farrow awards Elliot his beautiful daughter, Darling. Darling is beautiful indeed, but Elliot quickly refuses telling the King of his family at home.
Did he just refuse us?
A few days later, after a drunken night of partying, Darling who had found a liking to the married Commander from the moment she saw him, tried to give Elliot an ultimatum: Forget Jackie and his children and marry Darling instead. With the marriage of Darling came the gift of the crown and a big fortune. Elliot refuses again and makes his way home.
You want to come with me, Elliot? Oh, come on, "Commander to Remember"! I'll make you a deal: Go back home to Jackie, and lose all of your titles and money, or come with me and get the title of future king and a ton of fortune.
Sorry, I can't. I have to get home. I'm sorry, Darling. I can't. Look, I have a wife and four children. All of which I am loyal to. Please no.
Darling, not taking no for an answer a second time, follows Elliot home and slashes his throat with the pocket knife she always keeps in her dress. He is found by his wife, Jackie - whom was going to get groceries - who mourns greatly. In Jackie’s silent grieving, Darling slashes the children, who were left home alone before killing Jackie who came home with her dead husband in her arms.
