  • In 1874, Walter Wingfield created rules and equipment for modern day tennis.
  • In that same year, tennis was introduced to the USA, then it spread to Russia, India, and Canada.
  • In 1877, a croquet club hosted the first tournament in a town called Wimbledon.
  • Tennis had had its own TV channel since 2003 and tournaments like the US open have prized like 4 million to the winner.
  • Today, tennis is the 4th most popular worldwide with 1 billion fans. In the US 17.9 million people now play tennis.
