  • Odysseus is too afraid to kill Charybdis which shows that he isn't a total super human hero. It shows that he still has human flaws, like fear, and though he is experiencing supernatural experiences, he is still mortal and human.

  •  Odysseus makes a grave mistake by telling Polyphemus his real name,  since Polyphemus is Poseidon's son. This shows that Odysseus's pride is so excessive. Odysseus refused to leave without telling Polyphemus his real name so that Polyphemus knows him and fears him. This was a grave mistake. Odysseus's pride became so excessive that he couldn't contain it and had to make a terrible mistake. However, this flaw he has made proves that he is only human
  • Athena persuades Zeus to let Odysseus go and find Telemachus.
