Sleepy eye or Istahba (pronounced eesh-TAH-huh-bah) is also reluctant because the european americans are coming into their area and asking for it. Ramsey Threatens to end all negotiations. After the tension cooled, both sides agreed to meet again after a one day break.

  • The dakota consider the offer that ramsey made the night before. Stephen Riggs and other interpreters translate the documents. Henry Sibley and his fellow fur traders try to convince the dakota to sign the treaty. In the afternoon the dakota hands back the treaty and say they will sign it if some changes are made.

  • The dakota elders voice their concern. Sleepy eye says that he wants a copy of the treaty so they can tell if the government are keeping their promises. Ramsey and another U.S. official sign the treaty. The dakota sign them one by one. first they sign 2 treaties, then Stephen Riggs walks them to another table where they sign another treaty. Most of the dakota believe they are signing a third copy when they were actually signing a different treaty that says they will pay back the fur traders with the money they get from the land. Extended Tail Feathers suspects the dakota will never see much of the money promised to them from the treaty.
