- Solve the following equation.1/10 (4y + 5) = 1/4 (2y - 4)20 x 1/10 (4y + 5) = 20 x 1/4 (2y - 4)2 (4y + 5) = 2y - 48y + 10 = 2y - 48y - 2y = -4 + 106y = 66y/6 = 6/6y = 1
- How come these two are wrong?
- The first circle is because you only put 2y minus 4 and forgot to do 20 times 1 over 4. Also, the second circle is because when you subtracted 10 from 8y plus 10, you added 10 to the other side instead of subtracting it.
- First, you have to find the lowest common denominator of 10 and 4, which is 20. So, you would multiply both sides by 20, which will become 2(4y+5) equals 5(2y-4). Secondly, you have to use the distributive property on both sides, which will make the equation become 8y+10 equals 10y-20. Then, you have to subtract 10y from both sides and subtract 10 from both sides. Next, you have to collect the like terms on both sides, which will make the equation become -2y equals -30. Lastly, you have to divide both sides by -2 and you will find out that y equals 15.
- How do you do it then?
- Solve the following equation.1/10(4y+5)=1/4(2y-4)20x1/10(4y+5)=20x1/4(2y-4)2(4y+5)=5(2y-4)8y+10=10y-208y+10-10-10y=10y-10y-20-108y-10y=-20-10-2y=-30-2y/-2=-30/-2y=15
