  • Title: Oranges
  • Oranges
  • Oranges
  • Paraphrase: The boy is going on a walk through his town with a young girl the same age as him. They are going on a "date". They end up at a drugstore and the girl wants chocolate that costs 10 cents. The boy only has 5 cents and two oranges so he lays the 5 cents and an orange on the counter and left. The girl at her chocolate and the boy ate the orange.
  • Oranges
  • Connotation: Orange, girl, fire, candy, light, smiled, first time
  • Oranges
  • Attidude/Tone: Happy but also sad. The poem talks about the cold, dark winter. But, It also states that there is a first time for everything.
  • Oranges
  • Someone might have thought I was making a fire in my hands...
  • Someone might have thought I was making a fire in my hands...
  • Shift/Structure: There are not any rhyme schemes in this poem. I believe that the poem just tells us a story. Right when the boy hands over the orange to the cashier the story changes. It shows he would do anything for the girl.
  • Have a nice day!!
  • Title: Now that I have really understood the poem it is easier to understand why the title is "Oranges". It now makes sense how the oranges interact with the poem/story.
  • Theme: I think that this story has to main themes--Love and first times. This young boy is taking an also young girl out on a "date" for the first time and he actually enjoys it. I also think that the boy is experiencing love. That's why I think it is one of the main theme. He shows that it is okay to love someone even if you are young.
