Jesus had to go through Samaria and came to a town called Sychar. Jacob's well was there and Jesus, who was tired from a journey, sat down at the well.
When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus asked her, "Will you give me a drink?" The Samaritan woman responded, "But you are a Jew and I a Samaritan. Why would you ask me?"
"Sir," said the woman. "You've nothing to draw the water with and the well is deep-where can you get this living water?
Jesus told the Samaritan woman that if she knew the gift of God and who she was speaking to, you would have asked him and he would give you living water.
Everyone who drinks this water will still be thirsty, but whoever drinks the water that I give them will never again thirst.
The woman wanted this water so she wouldn't have to go to the well again.
The woman said, "I know the Messiah is coming and he'll explain everything.
Jesus declared, "I, the one you are speaking to, am the Messiah."
